This Day In Sports History (June 17th) — Boston Celtics
It was on this day in 2008 that the Boston Celtics won their 17th NBA championship. The Celtics beat the Lakers 131-92 in Game 6 in the most lopsided championship clinching game in NBA history.
The 2007-08 Boston Celtics enjoyed the biggest turnaround in NBA history as the previous year they won only 24 games, but improved by an incredible 42 wins as they finished the year at 66-16, the best record in the NBA. Much of the credit for the turnaround has to go to the free agent acquisitions of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, as they joined another all-star, Paul Pierce, to form “the big three”. With a solid supporting cast, which included Rajon Rando, Kendrick Perkins and James Posey, the Celtics were the best team in the league from start to finish.
Here is a Kevin Garnett interview after the game. “Anything is Possible!!!”
