Stat Line of the Night — 7/1/2013 — Jose Fernandez
The Miami Marlins are currently in the midst of a tumultuous season that has them sitting in last place in the entire MLB with a 30-51 record to go along with baseball’s worst offense. However, it hasn’t all been bad for the Marlins in 2013, as they’ve given a few of their top pitching prospects a shot at the Majors, and those young arms have shown that they are up to the task.
One of those top pitching prospects is Jose Fernandez, how had his best start of the season last night when he went eight innings, allowing only two hits, one walk and no earned runs against while striking out 10 during the Marlins’ 4-0 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Following that performance, Fernandez is now 5-4 on the season with a 2.72 ERA. With an earned-run-average like that, his record would probably be a lot better on a team that could offer him more run support. He didn’t need much last night, as he earned the victory and the “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, July 1, 2013.
