After Gruesome Injury, Former Gamecock Marcus Lattimore is Looking Good On His Road to Recovery (Videos)
Let’s see, when did we last see Marcus Lattimore? Oh right, it was back in October, as the South Carolina Gamecocks’ running back was lying on the field in agony with his leg bent in an unnatural position thanks to a dislocated knee and some seriously messed up ligaments.
At the time, despite the gruesome appearance of Lattimore’s knee, doctors said the injury wouldn’t end his football career. But what they really meant was, medically speaking it would not end his football career. The injury very well could have ended his career if no NFL team was willing to risk burning a draft pick on a running back with knee problems.
However, Lattimore was lucky. The San Francisco 49ers had some extra picks at the end of the 2013 draft, and they decided to take Lattimore in the fourth round and see what he’s got.
So far, that’s looking like a wise decision. Lattimore is back on the field, working with trainers and coaches, and hoping to get added to the Niners’ 53-man roster some time after week 6. And judging by some recent workouts, that looks doable. Lattimore recently shot a commercial for Underarmour at South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium, running up stairs and doing some lateral drills, and the guy is looking pretty strong.
I’m not much of a 49ers fan myself, but I’m definitely pulling for this guy. It would make for one hell of a comeback story.
