European Tour Golfers Try Out the Happy Gilmore Running Swing (Video)
If you play golf and you’re a fan of the classic Adam Sandler film* Happy Gilmore, then there’s a very good chance that, at some point in your life, you have tried to replicate Happy’s famous running swing technique. And chances are, the results were not good.
But did you ever wonder what would happen if the pros tried the technique? Well, prior to the 2013 Scottish Open over the weekend, somebody from the European PGA Tour decided to get a bunch of pros together and find out. The lineup included Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington, Paul Lawrie, Nicolas Colsaerts, and several other top players, and the results were pretty entertaining.
The longest Happy drive? That belonged to Harrington, who smashed the ball an impressive 328 yards. (Of course, Harrington is no stranger to the Happy Gilmore running golf swing.)
At the other end of the spectrum, the worst Happy drive came from Mickelson. It’s okay, though. He was just lucky he didn’t pull a hammy. When it comes to fitness, the dude is no Tiger Woods. I bet the man hasn’t run that fast in 15 years.
Besides, old Lefty got some pretty good consolation later on when he won the actual tournament.
In any case, here’s the video. Have a look:
*I can’t believe I just typed the words “classic Adam Sandler film.” It feels so wrong.
