Bill Belichick Talked About Aaron Hernandez at a Press Conference Today (Video)
Four weeks ago, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd. Today, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick talked about the incident for the first time during a press conference.
While there was plenty of the typical, “I’m not going to address the issue” from the Pats coach, there was also some hints of human emotions during his opening address regarding Hernandez’s involvement in Lloyd’s murder.
Belichick extended his sympathy to those impacted by Lloyd’s death and he discussed how he found about about Hernandez’s involvement while he was traveling outside the country. He later talked about the Patriots’ screening process for players, and how they typically looks at players on a “case-by-case basis, and try to do what’s best for the football team and what’s best for the franchise.” Bill did mention that not all of the team’s decisions work out, and expressed disappointment in how this one turned out.
He ended his opening address by saying that he would not talk about players no longer on his team, not in an attempt to “make this story disappear,” but because he would like to respect the judicial process and has been advised “not to comment on ongoing legal proceedings.”
