Stat Line of the Night — 7/25/2013 — Mark Buehrle
After blowing leads in each of their last two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, it appeared as though the Toronto Blue Jays’ seven-game losing streak was destined to go on forever. Luckily for the last place team in the AL East, they had Mark Buehrle on the mound last night to make sure that didn’t happen.
The 34-year-old lefty entered Thursday’s game having lost each of his last two starts, but he was on target all evening against the Houston Astros, pitching a complete-game, two-hit shutout. Buehrle would also surrender a couple of walks to go along with a season-high nine strikeouts during the Jays’ 4-0 victory.
While their playoffs hopes are not officially over, the Jays can start booking their October vacations, because they won’t be playing any baseball during that month for the 20th straight season. But at least some of their players have decided not to pack it in just yet. Buehrle appears to be one of them, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, July 25, 2013.
