Stat Line of the Night — 8/5/2013 — Eric Hosmer

The Kansas City Royals have been one of the hottest teams in baseball since the All-Star break.  They entered Monday having won 11 of their last 12 games, and, led by a huge offensive outburst from Eric Hosmer, they would continue their winning ways at home against the lowly Minnesota Twins.

Hosmer stepped to the plate five times and he torched the Twinkies’ pitching staff to the tune of three hits, two runs and five RBIs.  Among those hits were a two-run single in the second and a three run homer in the sixth, as the Royals cruised to the 13-0 victory.

With the win, the Royals improve to 57-52 on the season.  Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to gain much ground on the Cleveland Indians (who have won 10 of their last 12) or the Detroit Tigers (who have won their last nine in a row) in the AL Central, but they have kept themselves in the AL Wild Card picture.  More offensive performances like this one from Hosmer would certainly help their chances of playing meaningful October baseball for the first time since 1985, as he earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, August 5, 2013.
