Stat Line of the Night — 8/13/2013 — Alfonso Soriano
On July 26 of this season, the New York Yankees made a deal with the Chicago Cubs to acquire left fielder Alfonso Soriano. Last night, that move paid dividends during a game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Soriano stepped to the plate six times on the evening, recording two homers, a single, three runs and six RBIs. That would account for nearly half of the Yankees’ offensive outburst, as they went on to throttle the Angels by a score of 14-7.
It has been quite the disappointing season for the New York Yankees, as they currently sit 9.5 game back in the AL East. Unfortunately for them, Soriano was unable to propel them into playoff contention when he was acquired during this year’s trade deadline, but his breakout performance last night does earn him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, August 13, 2014.
