Russian 4x400 relay members kiss

With the Winter Game in Sochi, Russia, less than seven months away, and the country’s anti-gay laws drawing plenty of ire from around the world, many athletes have used sports as a platform to voice their displeasure with Russia’s lack of concern for the safety and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

A few of those acts of protest have taken place at the 2013 World Athletics Championships in Moscow, as Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firova of Russia shared a kiss on the podium after winning gold in the 4×400 women’s relay.

Expect the acts of protest to continue rolling in as we get closer to the 2014 Sochi Games.
