Here’s the First Great Hockey Highlight of the 2013-14 Season (Video)

crazy khl shootout goal

Seems a little odd to have a hockey highlight today, doesn’t it? I mean, it’s still August. NHL training camps don’t get under way until the second week of September, and the season is still over six weeks away.

However, over in Russia, the KHL season kicks off on September 4, which means those teams’ training camps are already into high gear. And at a recent intra-squad scrimmage put on by Ak Bars Kazan for their fans, hockey-lovers all over the internet were treated to quite the spectacle.

The spectacle in question is a brilliant shootout goal by Vladimir Tkachyov. The best way to describe it is to say it’s a combination of a lacrosse goal and figure skating, but even that doesn’t quite do it justice. So just go ahead and watch it yourself:

If you’re keeping score at home, that was four straight 360º spins from Tkachyov. If the goalie is anything like me, it’s no wonder he didn’t make the save. I got dizzy just looking at him.
