Stat Line of the Night — 9/11/2013 — Dan Haren

The Washington National’ playoff hopes may be pretty much dead, but don’t tell them that.  They entered last night with a four-game winning streak in tact and they seem to be playing their best baseball of 2013 during the final month of the season.

Their winning ways continued on Wednesday in New York, as the Nats extended their winning streak to five games thanks to a dominating performance from pitcher Dan Haren.  Through six innings of work, the 32-year-old righty allowed just one hit, one walk and no earned runs against while striking out eight.  The bullpen would take over from there and secure the 3-0 victory for Haren and the Nationals.

With the win, the Nats now sit six games back of the Cincinnati Reds for the final NL Wild Card spot.  Despite their wining streak, they remain a long way out of playoff contention, but Haren’s preformance has at least kept their slim hopes alive.  He earns “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, September 11, 2013.
