Cardinals Pitchers Keeping It Loose in Dugout During NLCS Game 4 Victory (GIF)
Last year the St. Louis Cardinals took a 3-1 lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League Championship Series, bringing them just one win away from back-to-back trips to the World Series. Then their pitching completely imploded, and they lost three in a row to the Giants by a combined score of 20-1. In Game 5, Lance Lynn lasted just three and two-thirds. In Game 6, Chris Carpenter was down 5-0 after two. And in Game 7, Kyle Lohse lasted just two innings and was responsible for four of the Giants’ nine runs.
The cause of the Cards’ 2012 pitching collapse? It’s strange to suggest a team that had just won a thrilling seven-game World Series the year before couldn’t handle the pressure, but it sure seemed like they stiffened up and lost their nerve. And judging by what we saw last night during their 4-2 win over the Dodgers in Game 4—giving them another 3-1 lead in another NLCS—it looks like they’re going all-out to keep things loose this time around.
What am I talking about, you ask? I’m talking about Adam Wainwright, Jake Westbrook, and Chris Carpenter doing a fancy little dance routine, of course.
Take a look:
That’s one way to keep yourself from thinking about choking again. We’ll find out if it’s working later this evening, when Game 5 is set to take place at Dodgers Stadium.
