Stat Line of the Night — 11/3/2013 — Nick Foles
When Peyton Manning tied the NFL record for most touchdowns in a single game on the opening night of the 2013 regular season, some of us may have been somewhat surprised, but it’s doubtful that anyone was overly shocked. After all, the man had already thrown for 436 touchdowns during his career and is considered by some to be one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the game.
Nick Foles‘ seven-touchdown performance during yesterday’s week 9 match-up against the Oakland Raiders, on the other hand, was unimaginable, seeing as how he entered the game with just 12 touchdowns in 12 career games. But it happened.
Foles threw just one touchdown pass during the opening quarter, but he followed that up with three in each of the next two quarters, before giving way to backup quarterback Matt Barkley early in the fourth quarter with the Eagles leading 49-13. They would go on to win by a score of 49-20.
Foles finished the game with 406 passing yards while completing 22 of his 28 pass attempts during his record-tying performance, which should earn him the Eagles’ starting job for at least the next few weeks. And it also earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, November 3, 2013.
