Stat Line of the Night – 12/9/2013 – Josh McCown

The Chicago Bears weren’t expected to be big contenders this year. But as it turns out, their whole division sucks. Adrian Peterson is having a “down” year (meaning he is only second in the league in rushing), Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone, and Detroit is…well, Detroit. So people started wondering if the Bears had a shot of making the playoffs after all…until Jay Cutler went down.

Now, it’s not like people thought the Bears were Super Bowl contenders with Cutler. But he’s got a hell of an arm, and when he stops pouting he can be dangerous. So they’d rather hand the ball to him than Josh McCown.

Or would they? Don’t look now, but in seven games this season Josh McCown has a 109.8 passer rating with 13 touchdowns and just one interception. And last night, the guy absolutely destroyed the Dallas Cowboys at a frigid Soldier Field. We’re talking 348 yards and four touchdowns in the air for a passer rating of 141.9, plus another 16 yards and one touchdown running for good measure. Now the Bears are 7-6 and tired for first place in the NFC North.

If McCown puts up numbers like that again, Cutler’s going to have to worry about job security. Either way, though, McCown earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, December 9, 2013.
