Chargers Receiver Keenan Allen Hurdled a Broncos Defender to Score a Touchdown (GIFs)
The Denver Broncos offense ran a whopping 91 plays last week and hung 51 points on the Tennessee Titans. Impressive? Absolutely. But that kind of thing can wear a team out and leave them a little flat when they have a short turn-around.
The San Diego Chargers took advantage of that last night in Denver, limiting Peyton Manning to 289 yards and two touchdowns. Then they took advantage of a relatively weak Denver defense (25th in the NFL in points/game) to upset the presumptive Super Bowl favorites.
Of course, it wasn’t just strategy that won the game for the Chargers. They also needed a few big plays. And without a doubt, the biggest big play they got was from rookie receiver Keenan Allen.
Roughly midway through the second quarter, with Denver up 10-3, Allen ran a slant route through the middle take a short pass from Phillip Rivers. Then he hurdled one Broncos defender before slamming into another and forcing his way into the endzone.
Take a look:
Keenan Allen now has 63 receptions for 931 yards this year, which is more than double what any other rookie receiver has this year—and Allen was taken in the 3rd round with the 76th overall pick.
Can you say bargain?
