Stat Line of the Night – 12/16/2013 – Justin Tucker

Justin Tucker

If the Baltimore Ravens had to name their team’s MVP for the season today, who would it be?  Does Torrey Smith get the honors?  Maybe Daryl Smith?…

…Or how about Justin Tucker?  After last night’s performance against the Detroit Lions, picking a field-goal kicker as the team’s MVP may not be such a bad idea for the defending Super Bowl Champions.

During what was essentially a must-win game, the Ravens called upon Tucker on six occasions, and the sophomore kicker delivered on each of those six occasions.  It started off easy, with field-goals of 29, 24 and 32 yards in the second quarter to help give his team the 9-7 lead at halftime.  But things got a heck of a lot tougher in the second half, as Tucker had to hit a 49- and 53-yarder, before eventually nailing the game-winning 61-yarder in the final minute to give the Ravens the 18-16 victory.

With the win, Baltimore remains tied with the Miami Dolphins for the final Wild Card spot in the AFC.  As for Tucker, he has now made a league-leading 35 field-goals on just 37 attempts.  He’s hitting on a ridiculous 94.6 percent of his attempts for the season, and he was perfect when his team needed him most.  That earns him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, December 16, 2013.
