Jeff Van Gundy Was In Way Over His Head Interviewing Gregg Popovich Last Night (Video)
San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich doesn’t suffer fools gladly, and he’s not easily intimidated. Earlier this season he gave TNT clown-costumed courtside reporter Craig Sager an earful for being forced to do an interview during a preseason game, and last year he gave good old David Stern the metaphorical middle finger by sitting his entire starting lineup for a nationally televised game against the Miami Heat. So when viewers heard that former NBA head coach and current ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy was going to be interviewing Popovich during last night’s matchup between San Antonio and Dallas, they knew they were in for something special—and they got it.
Sure, the whole thing lasted just 30 seconds. But it was an action packed 30 seconds. It had Jeff Van Gundy stammering and admitting that he was incredibly nervous. It had Popovich turning the tables immediately and grilling Van Gundy. And then it had Popovich—who towers over Van Gundy—bending down and giving the little guy a big hug.
Take a look:
Seriously, is there any coach in pro sports today that is more entertaining than Gregg Popovich?
