Amazing Goal: Hurricanes’ Nathan Gerbe Pulls a Hertl, Because All the Cool Kids Are Doing It (Video)
Well, it’s official. San Jose Sharks hotshot rookie Tomas Hertl is a trend-setter.
You might recall that, earlier this season in a game against the Rangers, Hertl became the youngest player in NHL history to record four goals in a single game. And you might further recall that goal number four was a ridiculous between-the-legs breakaway goal that left goalie Martin Biron completely baffled.
Since then, the between-the-legs goal is the go-to showboat move on breakaways. In early December the Bluejackets’ Nick Foligno pulled it off against the Lightning’s Ben Bishop. Now it’s Carolina’s Nathan Gerbe. He pulled a Hertl last night against Flyers goalie Steve Mason, giving his team a 2-0 lead en route to a 3-2 victory.
That was one hell of a goal. However, apparently the guys in the Carolina broadcast booth don’t make a habit of watching highlights from other games to see what others teams in the league are doing. Because really? They haven’t seen a goal like that all year?
