Scarlett Johansson Stars in Banned Super Bowl Ad for Sodastream (Video)
Every year, as advertisers scramble to create Super Bowl commercials that will strike a chord with consumers, there are ads that go to far and wind up getting banned. Then, of course, those ads wind up getting play anyway when the companies put them on YouTube, which makes getting banned not all that bad of a proposition.
In any case, you’re about to see the first banned ad from Super Bowl XLVIII, and here’s the good news: it stars Scarlett Johansson.
The bad news? Well, just watch and you’ll see that for yourself:
Yeah, the ad didn’t get rejected by Fox because it’s too racy. It got rejected because ScarJo calls out Coke and Pepsi at the end, and Fox doesn’t want to piss them off.
Oh, and conspiracy theorists might speculate that it had something to do with the controversy surrounding Johansson’s deal with SodaStream in the first place. You see, one of the Israeli company’s manufacturing plants is located in a West Bank settlement and, as you may know, that’s a pretty intense part of the world where people have some very strong opinions. But we’ll leave the politics to other websites and just say we wish this ad had been banned because it was too sexy. Because that would have been great.
