Bruins’ Loui Eriksson Gets Whacked in the Face with a Stick, Loses Two Teeth, Returns to Game (GIFs)
So far the big Tyler Seguin–Loui Eriksson trade is not playing out how the Boston Bruins had hoped.
That’s not to say they regret ditching Seguin. Even though he’s tearing it up this year, posting 24 goals and 32 assists for 56 points in 55 games, there was something about his attitude that Boston didn’t like, and they are doing just fine without him.
It’s also not to say the Bruins are displeased with Eriksson. The guy has done nothing wrong and they know he’s a good player. They’re just probably cursing their bad luck—or rather, Eriksson’s bad luck.
First the guy took a vicious elbow to the head from Sabres goon John Scott. That gave him a concussion.
Then he got absolutely destroyed by the Penguins’ Brooks Orpik. That gave him another concussion, and this time he missed pretty much all of December and half of January.
Now, finally, he’s back…only to get clobbered by a high stick last night against the Blues. Take a look:
Even though it was clearly an accident, the Blues player still should have been given a five-minute major for a high stick that drew blood. Yet, somehow, the refs missed that one.
As for Eriksson, the poor guy had to undergo an emergency dental procedure in the locker room that cost him two teeth.
Of course, he returned later in the game. Because he’s a hockey player.
