2014 Sochi Olympics: Czech Snowboarder’s Epic Crash Cracked Her Helmet Like an Egg (Video + Pics)

Before the 2014 Winter Olympics even got underway, some people were asking whether the slopestyle snowboard course was too dangerous. Last week American snowboarding legend Shaun White pulled out of the event out of fear that he might injure himself, while Norwegian Torstein Horgmo broke his collarbone during a practice run.

Today you have to wonder if the Czech Republic’s Sarka Pancochova might be asking that same question. She managed to make it through her first few runs on the course just fine, but on her last run of yesterday’s women’s slopestyle final she couldn’t quite stick her landing off a jump and took a spill that literally cracked her helmet in half.

Take a look:

The bad news is that this fall knocked Pancochova off the podium. But the good news—actually, the amazing news—is that the helmet worked. Pancochova walked away from the crash remarkably unscathed and today posted this on Instagram:

Sarka didn’t win a medal, but she isn’t dead, either. So that’s a silver lining, right?
