Daytona 500 Rain Delay Causes Mass Confusion, Proves the Internet Is an Idiot (Pics)
Yesterday the 2014 Daytona 500 was halted by rain just 38 laps into the race. The delay lasted a whopping six hours, which left FOX with a hell of a lot of time to kill. So, lacking any better options, they decided to replay last year’s Daytona 500.
Unfortunately, a lot of people who tuned in to check out one of the biggest events in motor sports did not see the little ticker at the bottom of the screen explaining that what they were watching was the 2013 Daytona 500. And a lot of those people were also on Twitter. So hilarity ensued.
Many noted that, wow, Danica Patrick was doing really well, just like last year!

But we shouldn’t be too hard on these people, because they weren’t the only ones who got fooled. Supposedly reputable news sources made the same mistake as well. Here’s a tweet from KTXS in Texas:
And here’s a whole series of tweets from the folks at ESPN Women, who obviously don’t follow racing too closely:
Hell, even FOX News was confused, even though the whole thing was being run on FOX:
So who actually won the 2014 Daytona 500? That would be Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Hell of a job there, internet. Hell of a job. Keep up the good work.
