Indianapolis Colts Owner Jim Irsay Arrested and Charged with DUI, Possession of Controlled Substance
Usually it’s NFL players who are the ones getting in trouble with the law. Today, however, it’s an NFL owner, and a pretty prominent one at that.
Around 3 a.m. this morning in Carmel, Indiana, Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. According to a statement released by the Carmel Police Department, Irsay was spotted driving “at a slow rate of speed,” before stopping in the middle of the road and making a turn without a signal. When officers pulled him over, they suspected he was intoxicated and thus performed several field sobriety tests, which he failed. Then they discovered several bottles of “Schedule IV” prescription drugs, though the pills inside did not match the bottles.
Here’s a video obtained by the Indianapolis Star of Irsay being led into the police station. Just as you would expect based on the mugshot above, the guy seems pretty wasted:
Back in 2002, Irsay spent a month in rehab for addictions to pain killers and booze, and this past October the Colts owner assured the world that he did not drink.
But apparently he fell off the wagon. Bail was set at $22,500, and Irsay is now facing one misdemeanor DUI charge and four felony counts of possession.
