Zydrunas Savickas Breaks World Deadlift Record at 1,155 Pounds (Video and GIF)
In case you haven’t been checking out ESPN2 in the middle of the night when you can’t get to sleep, you may have missed the recent 2014 Arnold Strongman Competition. And if you missed that, you also missed Zydrunas Savickas winning the competition and shattering the world deadlift record in the process.
To do that, Zydrunas Savickas deadlifted an iron bar saddled with massive tires, a bundle that added up to a combined weight of 1,155 pounds. That, combined with his performance in the rest of the competition, was enough for him to be declared the victor, edging out Brian Shaw by just two points.
As for whether Zydrunas Savickas was happier to win the 2014 Arnold Strongman Competition or to break the world record in deadlifting, I simply couldn’t tell you the answer. But what I can tell you for sure is that he seems pretty confident of his skills during his deadlift, which is probably best demonstrated by the GIF and video below.
I’ve never looked this sure of myself doing anything, and he does it while deadlifting more than a thousand pounds:
And here’s video of the deadlift:
