San Diego Padres Ball Girl Makes Great Catch to Kick Off the MLB Season (Video)

padres ball girl great catch

The San Diego Padres’ 2014 season may be just one day old, but judging by what we saw last night on ESPN, the right field ball girl at Petco Park is already in mid-season form.

The home team got shut down through seven innings by the Dodgers’ Hyun-Jin Ryu, then staged a clutch eighth-inning comeback against Blackbeard himself, Brian Wilson, making for a pretty memorable opening night. However, the best play by anybody wearing an interlocking “SD” on their hat was not made by anyone with a multi-million dollar salary. With one out and two on in the eight inning, Yonder Alonso ripped a Paco Rodriguez curveball foul down the first base line that was snagged by the ball girl before it entered the stands.

The announcers were pretty impressed, instantly proclaiming it an ESPN Web Gem. However, you can bet the people sitting in the front row who avoided emergency dental surgery were even more impressed.

Take a look:

Well done, San Diego Padres ball girl. Well done.
