David Ortiz Live Tweeted the Red Sox’s Visit to the White House and Got a Pretty Awesome Selfie with the Commander-in-Chief (Pics)
The last time a Boston sports team won a championship, the team’s biggest hero decided to make a political statement by not attending the White House ceremony honoring their achievement.
This time around, things could not be more different.
As you might recall, after the Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 2011, playoff MVP and card-carrying libertarian Tim Thomas decided to protest what he called the “out of control” federal government by not attending the team’s customary visit to the White House—a decision which caused quite a bit of controversy.
Fortunately for Boston sports fans, the MVP of the 2013 World Series—David Ortiz—seems to have no major problems with the size and scope of the federal government. Today the Boston Red Sox had their trip to the White House, and Big Papi wasn’t just a willing participant. He was damn thrilled to be there, because apparently he LOVES the Obamas.
We know this, because he live-tweeted the whole thing.
