Philadelphia Eagles Sent Guard Evan Mathis a Check for $0, So He Posted It on Instagram (Pic)
Philadelphia Eagles left guard Evan Mathis just finished the second year of a five-year, $25.5 million deal. That’s pretty good money for an offensive lineman. In fact, the $5.1 million average value of the deal ranks 14th in the league among guards.
Here’s the thing, though. Mathis isn’t the 14th-best interior guard in the NFL. He’s one of the top three or four. And now Mathis wants to be paid like a top three or four, so he’s asking the Eagles to re-work his contract.
So is coach Chip Kelly going to lose another core player this offseason, having already had DeSean Jackson taken off his roster? That remains to be seen. However, if the signing bonus check Evan Mathis got in the mail this week is some kind of a message, things don’t look good.
Yep, that right there is a check for zero dollars and zero cents. Mathis posted the pic on Instagram with the caption, “Hell yeah, just got my signing bonus.”
Now, obviously, whatever is going on here, it’s almost certainly some kind of mixup. But like I said, it can’t be a good sign, right?
