UConn Men’s Basketball Team Defeats Kentucky to Claim the 2014 NCAA Tournament Title (Video)
Despite being the higher-ranked team entering the 2014 NCAA Tournament Final against the No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats, the No. 7 University of Connecticut Huskies were labeled as the underdogs by every sportsbook out there. But UConn didn’t allow that to get in the way of their historic run to the school’s fourth national title, as they beat the Wildcats 60-54 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Monday.
The Huskies were the first seven-seed in tournament history to play in the National Championship game and now they’re the first seven-seed to win it. Their last title came in 2011, when they beat Kentucky in the Final Four before defeating Butler in the finals, and each of their four titles have come since 1999.
As for the Huskies’ latest title run, it was led by their 6’1″ senior guard, Shabazz Napier, who recorded 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in the finals, while earning Final Four MVP honors.
