Brewers’ Jean Segura Struck in the Head by Ryan Braun’s Bat (Video)
Baseball is a game full of potential hazards, from stray foul balls to collisions with walls and other players. At Saturday night’s match-up between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs, Brewers shortstop Jean Segura witnessed another hazard: A teammate’s poorly timed practice swing.
In the Brewers dugout, Ryan Braun was haphazardly swinging his bat when Segura had the bad fortune of walking right into its path. Luckily for Segura (and for Braun), he was wearing his helmet when it happened, which almost certainly helped him withstand the blow without any fractures or a concussion. He did get a quick stitch-up above his right eye, but other than that he’s reportedly fine with no other treatment thought to be required.
It’s definitely good news that Segura appears to be uninjured, especially if you consider how much worse the whole thing could have been. You can see for yourself in the video below of ESPN’s recap of the incident. And remember: Don’t swing a bat around when you’re near an area where other people could be walking.
