I’ll Take a ‘Jeopardy!’ Sports Spin-Off Starring Dan Patrick For $800, Alex
If you are the type of person who loves answering questions with more questions, you’ll be delighted to know that Jeopardy! is going from nerd to jock with a new sports-themed spinoff. And because Jeopardy! is a very matter-of-fact show, it will be called Jeopardy! Sports.
Who’s going to be hosting and conveying the quiet smugness of a young Alex Trebek? Well, none other than ubiquitous TV sports presence Dan Patrick.
Sony will be the studio behind the show, which will air on Crackle, the streaming network that thus far has been best known for Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which is a polite way of saying that the network isn’t well-known at all. However, because the show is on a digital platform, there will be an app that allows people to play along at home, which is pretty cool.
This is not the first re-incarnation of the classic answer-and-question game show. We had Rock n’ Roll Jeopardy! (ugh) hosted by your mom’s favorite rocker, Mark McGrath, and the oddly-abbreviated Jep which was on the Game Show Network and marketed towards kids—because kids love shortening words to the point that they become nonsensical little utterances like “jep.”
No word on when the program will start airing, but our best guess is, “What is this fall?”
