Miguel Olivo Pulls a Tyson on Rookie Teammate Alex Guerrero, Bites His Ear Off (Video)

It was “Kids Day” at Salt Lake City’s Smith Field on Tuesday, which means there were roughly 15,000 elementary school children in the stands to watch the Salt Lake City Bees defeat the Albuquerque Isotopes 7-4 Fortunately, they all started filing out during the 7th inning to go back to school, so most of them did not see Miguel Olivo of the Isotopes bite off his teammate’s ear during a dugout brawl before the top of the 8th.

The unlucky Evander Holyfiled to Olivo’s Mike Tyson was Alex Guerrero, a 27-year-old recent Cuban defector who’s hitting .368 with 10 home runs so far this year.

It’s not entirely clear what their beef was, but we know it started out on the mound in the bottom of the 7th inning:

Then it continued in the dugout after the inning was over, when Olivo sucker-punched Guerrero and bit off a chunk of his ear.

Given the severity of the injury inflicted and the fact that Guerrero is a hot prospect for the Dodgers, one would have to assume Miguel Olivo is not going to be employed by the Dodgers or Isotopes for much longer.

As my grandmother never once told me, it’s all fun and games until someone’s ear gets bitten off.
