Spelling Bee Judge Quotes ‘Milkshake’ by Kelis, Becomes Coolest Spelling Bee Judge of All Time (Video)

kelis spelling bee reference

If you’ve heard anyone talking about the Scripps National Spelling Bee at all today, it probably had something to do with Jacob Williamson, the greatest spelling bee contestant of all time.

As awesome as Williamson is, however, there is a downside to his sudden rise to internet fame. And that downside is that the Kelis reference by one of the spelling bee judges has gone almost completely overlooked.

That’s right. I said Kelis reference.

When eventual co-champion Sririm Hathwar asked the judges to use “Feijoada” in a sentance, Dr. Jacques Bailly came up with an absolutely amazing example referencing the classic 2003 song “Milkshake”…before somebody cut him off.

I am not kidding. Take a look:

The best part? Sririm has no idea what the hell Dr. Jacques is talking about. He was three when that song was popular.

As for Bailly, it appears as though he was just trying to make a ridiculously awesome joke when he got cut off. Feijoada, as you surely read, is a thick Brazilian stew. So the example sentance was likely going to be something like, “While Tabitha discovered that her milkshake brought all the boys to the yard, it was her Feijoada that really won them over.” Or maybe “the girls came to the yard for the Feijoada.”

Regardless, I think we all have to give it up for Dr. J.
