Kings Win Game 1 in Overtime Thanks to ‘Mr. Game 7’ Justin Williams
Los Angeles Kings forward Justin Williams is not a prolific goal scorer. He’s not inept in the offensive zone by any means. In fact he has four 20-goal seasons on his resume and was a lucky bounce away from another one this year, finishing instead with 19. So the guy can put the puck in the net. But he’s no Alexander Ovechkin—at least, not until crunch time.
You see, while Williams may not be an All-Star during the regular season, the guy has a knack for making big plays when it matters most. The guy has played in seven Game 7s in his career, three of which came this year with the Kings, and his teams are now 7-0. In those seven games, Williams has seven goals and 14 points, both of which are the most in NHL history.
Williams isn’t just clutch in Game 7 either. In 22 playoff games this year he has eight goals, 12 assists, and a +13 rating.
So why do I bring all this up? Well, who do you think scored the game-winning overtime goal in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals last night?
That’s right. Justin Williams. Who else?
