Yoenis Cespedes Gets Howie Kendrick at the Plate with the Greatest Throw You’ve Ever Seen (Video + GIFs)
On the whole, Oakland A’s left fielder Yoenis Cespedes has been a bit of an underachiever. Sure, he’s had flashes of brilliance—like winning the 2013 Home Run Derby—but last year he only accumulated 1.6 wins above replacement while smacking 26 home runs. That’s not ideal.
Cespedis is doing better this year, though. He’s on pace to hit 30 home runs and run up a WAR of 5.75, which would make his $10.5 million salary a bargain. And last night we definitely got one of those flashes of brilliance when Cespedes gunned down the Angels’ Howie Kendrick at home plate.
Sure, the throw was only necessary because he bobbled a ball off the bat of Mike Trout in the bottom of the 8th, which is why the guy is, overall, a minus fielder. Still, this might just be the greatest outfield assist I’ve ever seen. And I watch a lot of baseball.

The Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista has a cannon, as does the Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig. However, until someone comes along and makes a better throw than this, in my book Yoenis Cespedes has the best outfield arm in baseball.
