Right now, most 9-year-old girls are thinking about swimming pools and lemonade stands. Because they’re nine, and it’s summer.

However, 9-year-old Jaden Newman is thinking about college. More specifically, she’s thinking about whether she’d like to go to the University of Miami on a basketball scholarship. Because yeah, the University of Miami women’s basketball team is officially recruiting her.

The amazing thing is that it’s not even as crazy as it sounds. Yes, Jaden won’t graduate from high school for another eight years. However, she is a basketball prodigy who—because her dad is the coach—plays on the varsity high school basketball team at Downey Christian School in Orlando.

Actually, did I say plays for the varsity team? No, I meant stars. This year she averaged 14.8 points and 7.5 assists per game.

Check her out:

So while it’s weird to see a college basketball team recruiting a little kid, it’s kind of understandable. Why not get your foot in the door?

Oh, and if Downy Christian School or the name Newman ring a bell for you, it might be because Jaden’s 11-year-old brother Julian Newman was also a basketball prodigy who got 15 minutes of internet fame a couple years ago.

I think dad knows what he is doing.
