In First Ever Start in Center Field, Red Sox Rookie Brock Holt Makes Amazing Diving Catch…in Left Field (Video)
The Boston Red Sox cannot figure out where to play rookie Brock Holt. And the problem is not that he is incapable. It’s that he is too capable. Everywhere they put the kid, he does well. And last night, while making his first ever start in center field— his fifth position—the trend continued.
With two outs in the top of the third, Johnny Gomes lost an easy popup in the lights. He signaled to his teammates that he couldn’t spot the ball and, after what seemed like an eternity, it was looking like it was going to fall in for a hit.
Then, out of nowhere, Brock Holt came flying into the picture to make a diving catch. Because of course he saw the ball the entire time.
Take a look:
So the highlight of Holt’s first ever game in center field is a brilliant catch in left field. Go figure.
Oh, and by the way, Holt led off the next inning with a double off the Green Monster. Then he stole third and scored on a sac fly.
Considering that he is now hitting .338/.378/.464, I think the Red Sox are probably going find somewhere for him to play.
