Braves Shorstop Andrelton Simmons Makes Ridiculous Force Play at Second Base (Video)
Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons hasn’t made an All-Star Game yet, but that’s only because fans choose who goes to the All-Star Game, and most fans are idiots. (Not you, though.) Anybody who knows anything about baseball knows that Simmons is one of the best defensive players in the game, if not the best. Last year he won the Rawlings Gold Glove as the best shortstop in the National League, the Rawlings Platinum Glove as the best defender at any position, and the Fielding Bible Award for shortstops. Oh, and he finished with the highest Defensive Runs Saved total…ever. That’s what you call consensus.
But hey, I get it. Words are cheap. You want to see some actual proof that this man is a defensive genius. So here, watch this clip of Simmons changing directions, diving back across his body, fielding a ground ball, then diving back the other way again to tag second base with his glove.
Andrelton Simmons is easily the best defensive catcher since Omar Vizquel, and maybe even Ozzie Smith. Though I certainly wouldn’t be so bold as to claim he rivals those guys.
Not yet, anyway.
