Bayern Coach Pep Guardiola Refuses to Shake Hands with Opposing Coach after MLS All-Star Friendly (Video)
Sometimes the designation of “friendly” to describe a soccer game can be a little misleading. Though the competitive stakes are low, there’s still plenty that can make things not-friendly between two soccer teams. For instance, the MLS All-Stars recently squared off against Bayern Munich in a “friendly,” and surprisingly took the match 2-1.
Afterwards, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola refused to shake hands with MLS coach Caleb Porter, not because they lost (at least not ostensibly) but because of some aggressive tackling by the MLS side. One tackle caused a Bayern midfielder to leave the game, and a few others drew the ire of the Bayern coach.
However, he said he hoped to be invited back to play, and congratulated the MLS guys on their victory. Ok. Maybe it was a little friendly after all.
