Ball Girl Gets Ovation from US Open Crowd After Chasing Down Plastic Bag, Because Tennis Fans Are Easily Impressed (Video)
I love tennis. It’s a fun sport to play, and if you understand the basics it can be a fun sport to watch.
That being said, I’ve always thought the players were prima donnas when it comes to noise. Baseball players can hit 95 mph fastballs while people in the stands scream like there’s no tomorrow, but tennis players can’t serve while people are clapping? With their emotions so strictly inhibited, it’s no wonder that tennis fans look for absolutely any excuse to break the silent monotony and vent their excitement.
Case in point: last night’s US Open match between Caroline Wozniacki and Sara Errani. When a plastic shopping bag blew onto the court, pausing play for like two seconds, one of the ball girls hustled on out there and snatched it out of the air.
That earned her basically the biggest ovation of the night. Take a look:
Don’t get me wrong, it was a heads up play by the ball girl. But come on, tennis, is this what we’re getting excited about now? Ball girls running after garbage? Maybe it’s time we let the people cheer.
