Adrian Peterson Nike Deal Suspended Following Team Suspension
The Adrian Peterson Nike contract has been suspended until further notice. This follows Minnesota’s suspension of the running back for child abuse. The incident is thought to stem from Adrian’s administration of discipline to his child. His son was taken to the hospital for various injuries stemming from the incident.
Nike hasn’t stated what the terms or duration of the suspension are, so it’s not clear if this is a temporary suspension, or the first step towards showing Peterson the door. It’s hard to imagine what exculpatory evidence that could surface to salvage the Adrian Peterson Nike relationship. Nike has already removed Adrian Peterson apparel from its Nike Town stores, so they’re not wasting any time in sending a message.
The suspension of the Adrian Peterson Nike relationship came on the heels of Radisson dropping their sponsorship of the team following their logo being featured on the step-and-repeat in the conference room during several discussions surrounding the incident.
Adrian Peterson was initially yanked for week 2, then reinstated for week 3, but public outcry, combined with the Radisson move, led to the Vikings extending the suspension. Not exactly a move filled with integrity on their part. We’ll see how this goes, but I’m guessing it’s only going to get worse and worse for Peterson, and eventually he’ll be left standing alone.
