Sunday Night Football Marred by Gruesome Ike Taylor Injury (Video)
If you’re a Steelers fan, there was a lot to like about last night’s 37-19 win over the Carolina Panthers. The defense was stout, and Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount combined to rush for 265 yards.
Unfortunately, there was also plenty not to like, such as the gruesome Ike Taylor injury.
With just under 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter and Pittsburgh up 16-3, the Steelers cornerback tied up Carolina’s Kelvin Benjamin after a nine-yard reception. However, Taylor failed to bring Benjamin down immediately, so linebacker Lawrence Timmons came crashing in to help him finish the job…and basically snapped Taylor’s right forearm in half.
If you are not too squeamish, take a look at the play for yourself:
That was hard for everyone to watch. But it was especially hard for Taylor’s teammates.
“It stinks because we all know the type of player he is, the type of competitor he is. We all know how tough he is,” said DE Brett Keisel after the game. “He just loves the game, and it was hard to see him down there because he’s played so many games. We love him. We know he’ll continue to lead and we hope he heals up fast.”
Unfortunately, the Ike Taylor injury isn’t going to heal up that quickly. At this point the Steelers would probably be thrilled to get him back in eight weeks. Which is bad news for a Steelers defense that really came into its own last night.
