Bill Simmons Rant Dares ESPN to Sanction Him for Goodell Comments (Audio)

Bill Simmons

Bill Simmons, a longtime critic of Roger Goodell, has taken to his podcast to send the message home, plain and simple: Roger Goodell is a liar. And if anyone of authority wishes to discipline Simmons for those remarks, Simmons will gladly bring that discussion to the spotlight.

Bill Simmons didn’t explicitly say that he was goading ESPN to make a move, but that’s certainly the implication, as there is no other entity to which he answers. ESPN has been criticized in recent years for being too lenient on the NFL due to their broadcast partnership.

Boston.com offered this transcription of the Bill Simmons rant:

“I really hope somebody calls me or emails me and says I’m in trouble for anything I say about Roger Goodell. Because if one person says that to me, I’m going public. You leave me alone. The commissioner’s a liar and I get to talk about that on my podcast … Please, call me and say I’m in trouble. I dare you.”

For those of you who aren’t big readers, here is the audio:

Pretty strong words from someone on a national stage. Enough to make Keith Olbermann blush. And of course, Bill Simmons comes back to defending the Pats, because that’s what he does.
