Monster Truck Kills Three, Injures 40 at Dutch Automotive Festival (Videos)
Tragedy struck a monster truck demonstration at an automotive festival in the Dutch town of Haaksbergen on Sunday. After running over a row of cars, the the driver of one truck lost control of his vehicle and drove into the crowd, which for some reason was separated from the demonstration area by nothing more than a movable metal barricade.
Three people were killed, including a child, and at least 40 others were injured.
In videos of the horrific incident, you can clearly hear the truck revving its engine before crushing the cars. However, you can also hear the engine rev hard while coming down off the last car, and when the truck hits the pavement it takes off for the crowd.
There are numerous videos of the incident, which no doubt will be of great use to investigators as they look to lay blame for this pointless tragedy. If you’d like to look at them, you’ll find them below. They are not particularly graphic, but they are nevertheless disturbing considering the outcome. Take a look only if you are sure you’re up for it.
Something very eerily similar to this happened at a monster truck demonstration in Mexico last year. An out-of-control monster truck crashed through a barrier and into the crowd, killing eight.
You would think that would have been enough to make anyone involved in this sport think twice about lining people up alongside a demonstration area. But apparently it did not.
