This Marcus Mariota Trick Play Is Pretty Freakin’ Great, Even if Oregon Did Lose to Arizona…Again (GIF)
The big story from last night’s Oregon-Arizona game is the fact that #2 Oregon lost. To unranked Arizona. Again.
Last year Oregon were 9-1 when the Wildcats destroyed whatever chance the Ducks had of reaching the BCS title game. This year Oregon was 5-0. And while there’s still a chance that they can make the first ever College Football Playoff after losing this one 31-24, the Ducks still have to survive games against #8 UCLA and #14 Stanford. So the road will be tough.
There is a silver lining for Ducks fans, however, and it’s this awesome Marcus Mariota trick play. In the second quarter, with the score just 3-0 Arizona, Mariota tosses the ball to running back Royce Freeman. He then throws back to Mariota, who catches it and breaks two tackles, like a boss, for a 26-yard touchdown.
Take a look:
Right now Oregon’s loss stings. But Mariota had another strong game. He threw for 276 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, plus he caught a 26-yard touchdown pass and looked like a total badass doing it.
All this definitely keeps him in the running for the Heismann, which would be a pretty decent consolation prize for Ducks fan (and Drake) should their team end up not making the playoffs.
