Avs Beat Bruins on Daniel Briere Buzzer Beater (Video)
Last night in Boston, the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Boston Bruins 2-1 thanks to a Daniel Briere buzzer beater.
Of course, when you hear the term “buzzer beater,” you automatically think basketball, a sport in which they are a lot more common. But under the right circumstances you can have buzzer beaters in hockey, too. And last night, the circumstances were right.
The Avalanche and Bruins played a tight 1-1 game and looked to be headed to overtime. However, the Avalanche managed to get the puck in the Bruins zone and apply pressure with about 10 seconds left in the game, and when defenseman Jan Hejda threw the puck on net with time about to expire, Danny Briere found himself perfectly positioned to bang the rebound past Tuuka Rask.
There was just half a second left on the clock, so as you’d expect, the Colorado broadcasters got a little excited and put legendary homer Jack Edwards to shame.
Have a look:
Oh, and by the way, that was the 300th goal of Danny Briere’s career.
Talk about a memorable one.
