Sorry Cowboys, the Broncos Are America’s Team Now
Forget the Dallas Cowboys. The Denver Broncos are America’s Team now.
According to a new scientific poll from Harris Interective, 55% of American adults say they follow football. And among those adults, the most popular team is the Denver Broncos, while the Cowboys, who were #1 for the previous six years, dropped all the way down to #4.
So what’s with the shift? Well, part of it probably has to do with the fact that the Cowboys have mostly sucked in recent years. Let’s call that the Romo effect. However, most of it probably has to do with the fact that Peyton Manning is a goddamn football genius who also happens to be the most likeable professional athlete alive.
Hell, America’s love for Peyton has rubbed off on Eli Manning, too. Against all reason, his Giants are actually America’s second-favorite team.
Here’s the complete top 10:
1. Denver Broncos
2. New York Giants
3. Green Bay Packers
4. Dallas Cowboys
5. Pittsburgh Steelers
6. Seattle Seahawks
7. San Francisco 49ers
8. New England Patriots
9. Chicago Bears
10. New Orleans Saints
As for America’s least-favorite team, that’s a two-way tie between the Jaguars (big shock) and Titans—though I can’t imagine the Rams are too far behind.
