NFL Stars Speak Out Against Domestic Violence in New Video for the No More Campaign (Video)
In response to harsh (and deserved) criticism received over their handling of the Ray Rice situation, the NFL has created a new public awareness campaign aimed at stamping out domestic violence. They call it the No More campaign, and they have just released a public service announcement featuring a number of current and former NFL stars saying “no more” to domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as a number of harmful or detrimental attitudes and beliefs about these issues.
The PSA was directed by Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay, whose The Joyful Heart Foundation has teamed up with the NFL on the issue.
Take a look:
The message of this video is 100% spot on. There needs to be a change in the way we think about the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. Zero tolerance is the answer. And I have no doubt that the men in this video believe the words coming out of their mouth with every fibre of their being.
That being said, I’m not going to applaud the NFL for the effort. Maybe the league really has seen the error of their ways. Maybe the No More campaign is a sign that they really are dedicated to eradicating violence against women. But it’s going to take some time for me to believe that. After the cruel disregard they’ve showed toward victims of domestic abuse over the years, one commercial isn’t enough. Especially not when that commercial also happens to align with their economic interests.
I’m glad this video exists. But screw you, NFL.
