Here’s the Terrell Suggs Cheap Shot on LeGarrette Blount (Video)
Last night, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made NFL history by throwing six touchdowns passes for the second week in a row. And he’d thrown three of them by the midway point of the third quarter. So the Ravens were getting pretty frustrated. Which probably explains the Terrell Suggs cheap shot on LaGarrette Blount.
Notice I said explains, not justifies. Getting frustrated during a blowout loss to your biggest rival is understandable. Taking out your frustration by viciously going for a guy’s knees it not.
But of course, that’s what Suggs did. On a 1st and 10 from the Pittsburgh 14, Blount ran for six yards before having his progress halted by a bevy of Ravens. The play was then whistled dead. And then Suggs came in from behind and needlessly drove his head and shoulders into Blount’s hips, forcing his left knee to buckle.
Take a look:
Blount was not injured by the Terrell Suggs cheap shot, but he very easily could have been. We’ve certainly seen football players have their seasons ended by a lot less this year.
Suggs got flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play, which cost his team 15 yards. More importantly, the play led to a bunch of pushing and shoving, and from there on out the game turned into a street brawl, as Al Michaels‘s put it.
“I think it was traditional Ravens-Steelers,” Suggs said after denying that he intended to injure Blount. “Sometimes, you just play football, but sometimes things get a little excessive.”
Yeah. A little excessive.
