Mic Catches Patrick Reed F-Bomb and Homophobic Slur After Three-Putt at WGC-HSBC Champions (Video)
I am not a Golf Channel junkie, so I have never heard of the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament, and I certainly didn’t know it was going on right now in Shanghai. But now I do, thanks to a Patrick Reed f-bomb and self-referential homophobic slur.
The tournament got under way on Thursday, and Reed actually turned in a respectable first round, finishing with a -1, just four back of leader Graeme McDowell, his playing partner. However, after an embarrassing three-putt on the first hole, the TV microphone picked up Reed berating himself, saying “Nice f**kin’ three-putt you f**king f**got!”
The announcers immediately apologized for the outburst. Take a look:
The PGA has a policy of not disclosing disciplinary sanctions handed out to Tour members, but afterward they did acknowledge Reed will be punished.
“The PGA Tour’s Conduct Unbecoming regulations prohibit the use of obscene language on the golf course,” a spokesperson said. “The PGA Tour will deal with this matter internally in accordance with its regulations.”
Reed better play his butt off the rest of the way. I think he is going to have a pretty hefty fine to pay.
