Meet Paige VanZant, the UFC’s New It Girl (Gallery)
If you tuned in to Fox Sports 1 for UFC Fight Night on November 22, you didn’t see Paige VanZant beat Kailin Curran. Their bout was not on the main card, and it was not one of the 10 bouts broadcast on basic cable. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth watching. In fact, VanZant-Curran was very worth watching for two key reasons.
First, VanZant-Curran was named “Fight of the Night,” which earned both women—each of whom was making her UFC debut—a fat $50,000 bonus.
Second, and perhaps more importantly, Paige VanZant is…well…she’s really hot.
VanZant, 20, says she never intended to become a professional MMA fighter. She started boxing a bit in high school after her family moved to Reno because there wasn’t a gymnastics facility close to her home. Her coach at the gym suggested she try MMA because he thought she’d be good. A few years later, after just one amateur fight, she got a call to do a pro fight, and not long after that she got selected to be on The Ultimate Fighter…until producers realized she was not 21 yet and thus couldn’t legally participate.
The UFC signed her anyway, though, and after her debut was delayed a bit because of a back injury, the Strawweight is now 1-0 and poised to be a big star. Because people like hot women who (literally) kick ass.
